Welcome back to part 2 of the series called “To Infinity and Beyond!” If you have not read part one of this series, make sure to read it here before reading this one! Last time we had a discussion involving all sorts of up and coming movies Disney has planned in the years ahead. Some of those movies consisted of Christopher Robin, Wreck-It Ralph 2: Ralph Breaks The Internet, Mary Poppins Returns, and much more! In total, we discussed 9 movies Disney has in the pipeline but even with those 9 movies, that is still not all of the movies Disney has planned. With that said, here are 10 more films Disney is planning on making, beginning with Toy Story 4!
Toy Story 4
The story began in 1995, November 22nd, 1995 to be exact. The movie that started it all was the one and only Toy Story! Since Toy Story, Pixar has gone on to create 20 films to date. In 2019 there is one film coming out. While in 2020 though, 5 unannounced films will make their way to theaters. That one movie that is coming in 2019 is Toy Story 4. Although we do not have a synopsis for the film yet, according to John Lasseter it is to be about an adventure Buzz and Woody go on to rescue Bo Peep.
Worldwide, many people love the Toy Story Franchise. And because people love it so much, the stories have continued on beyond the films. Such instances are in lands across Disney Parks worldwide, as well as having multiple short films. Toy Story is the movie that started it all for Pixar Animation Studios. Being how well it did in theaters, it paved the way for all future movies Pixar made! We can see the final chapter of the Toy Story franchise when Toy Story 4 ‘opens up the toy box’ one last time for toys of all ages June 21st, 2019!
Spider-Man: Far From Home
There is one thing that is quite questionable. Peter Parker ended up in quite the predicament in the aftermath of Infinity War. Regardless of showing Peter as disappeared, he is somehow coming back for the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming. Spider-Man: Homecoming was the first Spider-Man movie made by Marvel Studios instead of Sony. Reason for this is Kevin Feige the president of Marvel Studios was able to make a deal with Sony Studios. The deal was that if Sony gave Marvel Studios the creative rights to making a Spider-Man movie along with having him in a total of 5 more movies (Captain America: Civil War, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Avengers Infinity War, Avengers 4, and Spider-Man: Far From Home) Marvel Studios would give Sony 100% of the profits.
It really was quite the deal as with that deal Marvel Studios was able to create the Spider-Man movie fans always wanted and the movie that always could have been. Tom Holland, the young 22-year-old actor from England who plays Spider-Man, has quite the reputation for ‘accidentally’ leaking Marvel secrets. It should come as no surprise to see Tom Holland leak Marvel secrets. The reason for this is he has leaked some secrets and spoilers in the past. Apparently, he has just recently leaked the title for the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming.
That said, the sequels’ title is Spider-Man: Far From Home! Technically there is no Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel, while technically, there is. We know there will be one due to Tom Hollands’ leak. But other than that, Marvel has not officially said there will be one. This is why fans love Tom Holland as just as we are huge fans, he himself is a big fan and will do anything or try anything to let us in on what’s happening! Since the film isn’t officially confirmed by Marvel, there is no official plot just yet. However, there are rumors circulating around as to what it would be. So, how does Peter come back to life? No idea, but we can all find out together when Spider-Man: Far From Home swings into theaters July 5th, 2019!
The Lion King
Beginning July 19th, 2019, a new king will take the throne! This ‘new’ king is actually not really new as he was a king before but he is coming back to the throne. Simba is this king, and in Swahili, his name means ‘lion’. He is the ‘Lion King’. We met Simba, Timon, Pumbaa, Rafiki, Mufasa and all the rest of the Savannah animals on June 24th, 1994. Lion King told the story of a young lion cub who journeyed on an adventure to ultimately, in the end, overthrow his evil uncle from the throne, as his uncle killed his father, Mufasa. In 1994 the movie became a hit with everyone again around the world and has been adapted into Broadway plays, shows/musicals, merchandise and has even gotten 2 direct-to-video sequels that are Lion King 1 ½ and Lion King 2: Simba’s Pride.
To follow the latest trend in the Walt Disney company which is taking their classic beloved animated movies and transforming them into live-action, it should come as to no surprise that 24 years later The Lion King is getting that very same treatment! The movie is going to be directed by the very famous Jon Favreau who has directed multiple Marvel films such as Iron Man, and Spider-Man: Homecoming, as well as directed other Disney live-action films such as 2016’s remake of the Jungle Book! With this very famous director, it brings with it an amazing all-star cast which one of the names may sound very familiar to you especially if you know the cast of the original.
James Earl Jones will be taking on the role of Mufasa yet again, Donald Glover will be voicing Simba, Beyonce voicing Nala, Seth Rogen will be Pumbaa, John Oliver will be voicing Zazu as well as many others who will be voice actors for this film! The Jungle Book used CGI when they made the movie in 2016. As such, they will be utilizing CGI again for The Lion King. Although there is no official trailer out to the public yet, at the D23 Expo out in Anaheim, California in 2017, Jon Favreau showed audiences a little snippet of the upcoming film and based on what everyone saw, the movie is going to look amazing when we are finally able to see it when it ‘roars’ into theaters July 19th, 2019!
Artemis Fowl
As we are getting a lot of remakes to classic Disney movies as well as many sequels come 2019, there is one movie that Disney will be releasing that is not a sequel nor is it a remake. This ‘new’ movie is actually based off a book titled ‘Artemis Fowl’. Artemis Fowl is actually a book series written by Eoin Colfer and consists of 8 books: Artemis Fowl, The Arctic Incident, The Eternity Code, The Opal Deception, The Lost Colony, The Time Paradox, The Atlantis Complex and then finally, The Last Guardian. Perhaps you have heard of the Artemis Fowl books. You may have even read them. But if not, you do have time to read them if you’d like before Artemis Fowl comes to theaters. Disney will be taking the first book and transforming it into a film.
Artemis Fowl is a 12-year-old prodigy genius who essentially runs a crime lord business. From many years of research, he then finds out that fairies are real. Finding out that they are real, he sets off an adventure to kidnap an ‘alcoholic’ sprite. This movie should be very interesting based upon that description. Another surprise is the fact that Disney is making this movie. After all, this book is a Young Adult Fantasy-Fiction book. Even the author himself describes the book as being “Die Hard” but with fairies. According to IMDb the official movie synopsis is “Artemis Fowl the second, a young Irish criminal mastermind, kidnaps the fairy LEPrecon officer Holly Short for ransom to fund rescuing his father.

Once a transaction is made, they go onto a hunt for the evil pixie Opal Koboi and rush to save Artemis Fowl senior from the Arctic.” This is going to be one very interesting movie and it will be quite interesting to see how Disney adapts this into a movie, but we will see how this all works when Artemis Fowl ‘steals audiences’ into theaters August 9th, 2019!
Frozen 2
It was the holiday season of 2013, November 27th, 2013 to be exact; the day the world ‘shattered into frozen fractals’ all around. It was an original movie that Disney made and it became a huge success. In fact, it did so much better than what Disney was even suspecting. For some reason, people just cannot get enough of Frozen. Maybe it is the talking lovable snowman Olaf. One reason many people love Frozen could be due to us getting two new Disney princesses to the Disney family. OK, we have one new princess and actually a queen. In truth, the real reason many people love the film is that of the story that Frozen tells. It tells the love story between two sisters and how their love is powerful enough to ‘thaw a frozen heart.’
Another thing many people loved about the film was the powerful song that Elsa sings in the movie. Called ‘Let it Go,’ the lyrics are something that many people can relate to. Frozen went on to winning many awards following the huge success it made. One of those was the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film in 2014. It went on to winning 6 more awards for various things and has won a total of 7.
Star Wars: Episode IX
As one can almost expect by now, Disney releases a new Star Wars film every single year. Every other year we get a Star Wars spinoff movie. Then every other year in between, we get a Star Wars Episode in the canon. 10 Star Wars films have made its way to theaters so far. Those films include the 8 films part of the ‘Episodic Series’ as well as the 2 spinoff films. The 9th Episode will be coming in 2019. After that, a new trilogy of stories will make its’ way to theaters with Episodes 10-12.
Episode IX will be the last episode in the current trilogy that started with Episode VII: The Force Awakens. Last year’s Star Wars Film (2017) was Episode VIII: The Last Jedi. In 2018 we got the Star Wars spinoff film, Solo: A Star Wars Story. In 2019, we are getting the conclusion to The Force Awakens trilogy with Star Wars: Episode IX. Currently, the whole entire plot and the name of the film is all under wraps. What we do know so far, is it will ‘force’ its’ way to theaters December 20th, 2019!
Mulan
June 5th, 1998 was the release of a brand-new Disney princess and her name was Mulan. This hit animated film was based on the Chinese warrior, Mulan from China. Mulan was not necessarily a real person. The story came from an ancient Chinese ballad dated around 4th or fifth-Century BC. She could be a real person, but we don’t know that for sure. In the ballad, her name is ‘Hua Mulan’ which translated from Mandarin is “Flower Magnolia” or Magnolia flower. Mulan is a story about one girls’ journey who fights in the Mongol war for her father. She wanted to take his place as he was in his old age and didn’t want him to suffer.
According to the law, men (one man from each family), had to fight in the war. Mulan was heartbroken to see her father leave in his old age. So, she disguised herself as a man and fought in his place. Eventually because of her bravery and because of her strength, China was able to win that war! Since the movie came out in 1998, the movie has still been a bit hit. Come 22 years later in 2020, we are getting a Disney live-action remake of this beloved tale!

According to Niki Caro, the director of the movie, it will not be a musical like its’ animated counterpart. Instead, it will mainly be a martial arts style film. Instead, the movie will focus entirely on being a martial arts style kind of film. Is this approach to the film the best thing? Well, we may not know until the film comes into theaters March 27, 2020!
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
Up until August 1st, 2014, there was a group of Marvel characters that no one really knew anything about. Well, OK, those who were the really die-hard fans knew all there was to this group. However, most other Marvel fan and even the general public knew nothing regarding the Guardians of the Galaxy. When Guardians of the Galaxy was first announced, it brought on confusion for people. They wondered what a Groot was, who Gamora was, and why a man named Star-Lord loved 80’s music. It was with this group and this movie that people started to wonder if Marvel had lost their way. They thought that this was going to be a movie that would fail horribly. Beginning August 1st, 2014, all that changed. People instantly fell in love with all of the Guardians, and could not get enough.
People felt that the movie was so hilarious, the story was great, and was another solid addition to the MCU. Marvel took a group of characters that no one really knew about nor did they care about. They turned them into a group that almost every Marvel fan now knows and loves. They were a group of ‘nobodies’ who are now ‘somebodies’. With the amount of love the Guardians were receiving, it came to no surprise Marvel wanted to give fans more. They did and the way they did it was when they released Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 to theaters May 5th, 2017! Not only did they love the first movie so much, but the second film was loved just the same! That being said Marvel fans still wanted more, so Marvel upped their game.
They brought the Guardians to the Avengers. Not only that, the Guardians now have their very own rides in 2 Disney parks. If that was not enough, director James Gunn has announced they are working on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3! As of right now, the movie does not have an official synopsis nor does it have an opening date. As of July 22, 2018, the movie has been in development. What we do know is that it will make its’ way to our ‘galaxy’ come 2020!
Jungle Cruise
Sometimes the oddest things are turned into movies. Such movie examples are 2003’s Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and The Haunted Mansion movie. Both movies were inspired by Disney attractions. Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl was created from the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction. The Haunted Mansion movie was inspired by the ride of the same name. Haunted Mansion never made it into a franchise of movies, but Pirates of the Caribbean did. Pirates was made into 5 movies total with a rumored 6th one potentially in the works. It seems as though almost any Disney attraction can turn into a movie. Now, the next ride that’s receiving that treatment is the one and only Jungle Cruise ride!
The Jungle Cruise is one the few remaining opening day attractions at Disneyland. It opened with the park on July 17th, 1955. To this day, 63 years later, that very ride is still in Disneyland. It is a ride that many people love and enjoy. Perhaps the reason people love it so much is because of the really bad jokes on the ride. The jokes are so bad that they are funny because of how bad they are. The Jungle Cruise is a boat ride that takes you on a pretend journey through the Amazon. While on your journey, your Skipper (the boat driver) will crack some jokes and you can see robotic animals. Along the way, your Skipper will tell you horrible jokes to make you laugh. For some reason, Disney has decided to now make a movie all about the Jungle Cruise.
While we do not know very much at all about this upcoming movie, we do know some things. According to Hollywood Reporter, the official synopsis of the film is that it is “Set in the early 20th century and takes place in the Amazon jungle. Dwayne Johnson will play a boat captain who takes his sister (Emily Blunt) and her brother (Jack Whitehall) on a mission to find a tree believed to possess healing powers.” This small piece of information is pretty much all we know about this movie but, we can expect this movie to be released shortly soon. The movie is currently in production as of May 2018. This movie is going to be very interesting when it does come to theaters October 4th, 2019!
Maleficent II
In 2014, Disney did something that was kind of a first for Disney. Instead of focusing on creating a movie about the heroes, Disney created a movie all about one particular villain. This villain was a live-action retelling of the Disney animated film, Sleeping Beauty, but instead of telling Sleeping Beauty’s story, Disney opted to tell the story of Maleficent herself. Maleficent told the story of how she became the villain that people feared, so in a way, it tells the story of what happened before Princess Aurora and the sleeping curse. The most surprising thing was the actual story behind Maleficent. She was actually a good person before she became a villain. The film became such a success that Disney has decided to go forth and make a sequel.
The sequel is officially being called Maleficent II and according to Collider, the official plot for the film is as follows, “A fantasy adventure that picks up several years after “Maleficent,” in which audiences learned of the events that hardened the heart of Disney’s most notorious villain and drove her to curse a baby Princess Aurora, “Maleficent II” continues to explore the complex relationship between the horned fairy and the soon to be Queen, as they form new alliances and face new adversaries in their struggle to protect the moors and the magical creatures that reside within.”
Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning will be reprising their roles as the infamous Maleficent and Aurora. We also get some newcomers like Harris Dickinson and Michelle Pfeiffer. Respectively, they will be playing Prince Philip and Queen Ingrith. As of May 29th, 2018, Maleficent II is in production and we can expect to see part 2 released on May 29th, 2019!
So here comes are ending to this amazing journey. We took a trip in time to the future and found out all the amazing movies Disney has planned. All in all, we only took a journey 2 years ahead to the future. And in that timeframe, we found out the 19 movies Disney plans to make. That is a lot of movies and one can only dream as to what movies come next!
Movies are an art form that brings us all together and as Walt Disney once said for his reason to make movies is “I do not make films primarily for children. I make them for the child in all of us, whether we be six or sixty.” Had Walt Disney never made Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1938, the world would be very different as it is today because it was that very film that lit the spark and truly turned the Walt Disney company into something.
